Music is an essential element in the life of St. Anthony’s Parish. Because of this, we want to encourage participation from all people who feel called to give of their time and talents in the effort to enrich the worship experience at Masses and prayer services throughout the year. Vocalists and skilled instrumentalists comprise this ministry. Regular attendance at parish liturgies and rehearsals are crucial for each music minister’s tasks and a required commitment for all musicians.
If you have any questions about the music ministry, we encourage you to reach out to Kayleen Roussin, our Music & Choir Director whose information is located at the bottom of this page.
The parish choir is the primary vocal ensemble at St. Anthony of Padua and performs weekly at the 9:00 a.m. Sunday Mass as well as special celebrations throughout the year. We invite all adult and teenage (High School) parishioners to participate; no previous experience is necessary. As a choir, we embrace a wide range of musical styles from chant to contemporary. Join us for our rehearsals on Tuesday evenings at 6:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in the Church
Our Children's Choir sings the last Sunday of the month at the 11:00 AM Sunday Mass. Children are encouraged to participate with the only one requirement: the ability to read! This can be as young as kindergarten up to 8th grade. During rehearsal, children learn rhythm, harmonies, and how to read music. One of the techniques used to develop a strong sense of tonality is by using the Italian Solfege system. The young aspiring musicians rehearse on Tuesday evenings at 5:00 p.m. in the choir practice room (second floor of the office). Our cantors lead the congregation in hymns and responses during weekend Masses and sometimes sing at funerals and weddings as well. We couldn’t get by without the leadership and beautiful contribution of these faithful singers! Cantors also have the opportunity to duets, trios, and other special sacred music that require exceptional skills during the mass.
If you would like to join the cantor pool, please contact Kayleen Roussin to receive more information and set up a meeting/audition. Personal training is available!
There are moments where the beauty of a piece music truly strikes the soul and brings one closer to God in worship and prayer. The added touch of a certain instrument can honestly bring one to that level. This is why grand celebrations like Christmas, Holy Week, and Easter all include additional musicians.
However, the mass is not limited to professionals; if you played an instrument in the past, or currently do, please consider volunteering your gifts for God. All instruments are always welcome to beautify the mass, whether it be guitar, violin, cello, flute, or trombone. Our director has experience in all areas and can write music specifically for your comfort level, simple or complex. Please contact our director and residen composer, Kayleen Roussin, for more information.
